257 million dinars earmarked to add 900 megawatts to power network

The Central Agency for Public Tenders has granted approval for the procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of gas turbine units employing the combined cycle system.

These units aim to augment the electrical energy capacity at the Subbiya Electric Power Station by an impressive 900 megawatts in its fourth phase, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The awarded contract, totaling 257.558 million dinars, has been given to the winning company selected through the tender process. The Ministry of Electricity and Water had initially requested a review of the contract value earlier this year, a request which the agency subsequently accepted. The final contract was then granted to the winning company at the initially estimated amount.

MEW gas underscored its commitment to proposing projects geared towards expanding energy and water production to align with the country’s urban growth.

Concurrently, the Ministry secured approval from the Agency to issue a tender for the provision, installation, and operation of a photovoltaic cell system on the car sheds and buildings at southern electric power stations.

This initiative is part of a broader series of renewable energy projects utilizing photovoltaic panels, with a target of generating 3 megawatts per hour. This energy will power the locations where the panels are installed, substituting traditional fossil fuel-generated electricity and thus saving costs.

The Ministry intends to harness renewable energy sources through this contract, providing sufficient energy to illuminate buildings and employee parking areas around the clock, courtesy of the panels installed on the parking canopies.
