236 thousand commuters crossed the red light in 2022

The Ministry of the Interior warned against reckless driving after the General Traffic Department’s statistics for the past year showed that 236,000 citizens and residents disregarded red lights and drove recklessly. As reported by Al Qabas, the number of speeding violations on the road reached 2.6 million, and the total direct and indirect traffic violations were 4.2 million, with a total of 73.6 million dinars in fines collected.

The Chairman of the Unified Gulf Traffic Week Committee, Brigadier General Ibrahim Al-Jalal, emphasized the importance of full concentration while driving and avoiding the use of mobile phones to reduce fatal traffic accidents resulting in numerous deaths, injuries, and financial and moral losses. Al-Jalal said, during the unified Gulf Traffic Week for GCC countries, that the department is working on two fronts: educating drivers to adhere to traffic rules and laws, and second, focusing on students to cultivate a traffic-conscious generation.
