2-year-old who swallowed 8 injection needles, saved by doctors

Doctors in northeastern Peru saved the life of a two-year-old boy after he swallowed eight hypodermic needles while playing.

Doctor Efrain Salasar said, “When we were in the operating room and opened his stomach, we found these metal pieces, and we realized that they were in fact needles,” reports Al-Rai daily.

Media outlets in Peru reported that the needles were among those used to vaccinate animals on a farm where the child’s mother works.

The child, whose name has not been revealed, lives in the agricultural region of Taratubo, about 622 kilometers from the capital, Lima. “Maybe he swallowed it while he was playing there,” his mother said. The child’s life is not in danger after surgery, according to media reports.
