1,800 expatriate teachers are threatened with a financing “block” from banks

The expatriate teachers, believed to be about 1,800, who are included on the list of those whose services have been terminated as part of the replacement policy are facing problems with the local banks and their accounts may be blocked until they move to new jobs that qualify them to borrow again.

Informed sources told Al-Rai daily that the public education sector at the Ministry of Education has provided the banks — upon their request, and as part of their endeavor to discuss the possibility of placing them on the list of those deprived of new funding until further notice — a list of names of teachers who are included in the decision to terminate their services.

Although they do not face the risk of being exposed to the default by virtue of the fact that their loans are linked to the end-of-service reward; it is expected that their outstanding loan money will be deducted from their accounts as they are deposited by the ministry.
