18 workers of 5 unlicensed hotels arrested in Salmiya

Acting Deputy Director General for Employment Protection, Fahd Al-Murad, confirmed that the Manpower Authority is keen on regulating the labor market and apprehending violators. The official stated that the joint committee, consisting of several relevant authorities, carried out a surprise inspection campaign on five unlicensed hotels in Salmiya on Thursday. According to Al-Murad, the move was part of the Authority’s keenness to regulate the labor market and apprehend violating workers.

In addition, Al-Murad confirmed that the inspections resulted in the arrest of 18 workers, including 15 workers under Article 18 for the private sector and three workers under Article 20 for domestic labour. He also called on business owners to abide by the regulations to avoid legal penalties. Moreover, the authorities registered a violation of the law against the employer, in addition to closing the file and the labour violation, in which the penalty may result in deportation.
