12,000 vaccinated against Covid-19 in Kuwait out of 4.8mln

Kuwait has started vaccination against coronavirus but only 12,000 citizens and residents of the total population of about 4.8 million (0.25 percent) have been vaccinated, Al-Qabas daily reported.

Sources from the health sector criticized the very slow pace in getting the vaccines from abroad and administering them to top priority categories.

Sources pointed out to the daily that despite the huge financial capabilities of Kuwait and strong support of the Council of Ministers for the health authorities in the import of vaccines, the actual situation is absolutely inconsistent with the seriousness of the epidemic and the speed of its spread and mutation around the world.

Sources confirmed that societal immunity to contain the epidemic will be achieved only by vaccinating 65 percent of the population. Sources stressed the need to speed up the vaccination process using corona vaccines that are able to repel new strains of the virus from which Kuwait has yet to be immune.

According to the daily’s reading of vaccination rates in 10 countries, Kuwait is out of the classification; while Israel ranked first as 21 percent of its nine million population have been vaccinated, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 11 percent, Bahrain with more than five percent, America with about two percent and Denmark with about 1.98 percent.
