• 700,000 already vaccinated

  • Majority target group to be vaccinated by May

  • Total vaccinations of 2.8 million to be completed by September

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad disclosed that the number of registered people to receive the “Covid-19” vaccine reached 1,210,155 persons out of which 700,000 have already received the vaccination, Arabic daily Al Rai reported.

The daily said that the pace of vaccination among citizens has accelerated, leading to the vaccination of the majority of the target group by mid-May, approximately noting that the vaccination of the majority of the total target segment of the country’s population of citizens and residents (about 2.8 million) will be by next September.

Revealing that achieving herd immunity required vaccinating about 60 to 70 percent of the country’s population, the sources emphasized at the same time that increasing vaccination rates will protect against infection and reduce its complications, noting that infection numbers are lower in the most vaccinated segments and groups of society compared to other groups.

Dr Sanad  announced that residents of Hawalli Governorate were the highest registered to receive vaccination, with 29 percent of the total number of registered persons, while the residents of Farwaniya and Ahmadi governorates came in second place, at a rate of 22 percent, and the residents of the capital governorate ranked third with 19 per cent. While the residents of Jahra Governorate were the lowest among those registered with only 7 percent.
