Kuwait urges UN action over Iranian attacks, calls for accountability

The General Staff of the Army said Kuwaiti air defenses successfully intercepted missile attacks and hostile drones following the Iranian attacks. The Kuwait Fire Force said its teams managed at dawn to extinguish a fire that broke out at a residential complex Wednesday in one of the Capital’s districts after the site was targeted by a hostile drone. No injuries or deaths were reported, and the damage was confined to property.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the continuation of the Iranian attacks, describing them as a grave violation of international law and the UN Charter, as well as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817. The ministry said the attacks represented a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability and undermining diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions. Kuwait stressed its right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security and interests and ensure the safety of citizens and residents in the country.
Speaking in Geneva, Kuwait described the Iranian attacks as a “blatant and flagrant aggression” and a clear violation of international law. It called for an immediate move toward deterrent measures and effective accountability procedures to halt the attacks. Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, said the systematic targeting by Iran went beyond a temporary disruption of regional balances.
He said the attacks represented a clear violation of the UN Charter and demonstrated disregard for international will and a serious breach of international humanitarian law. Al-Hain stressed that the international community could no longer limit its response to crisis management, political discussions and formal positions.
He warned that attempts to contain what he described as organized aggression could undermine the foundations of the international system, holding the UN Security Council responsible for maintaining international peace and security.
Kuwait also called on the Security Council and relevant UN agencies to document the attacks and pursue those responsible, emphasizing the principles of justice and international rule of law.
Separately, Kuwait condemned Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Jordan, expressing full solidarity with both countries and support for measures taken to protect their sovereignty, security and stability.
Kuwait also condemned the attack on the Saudi tanker Sidr while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in deaths among the tanker’s crew. It expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and rejected attacks that threaten the safety and security of maritime navigation.
Condemnations from Gulf and Arab countries continued, with widespread expressions of solidarity with Kuwait and other targeted states, alongside calls for an end to the escalation, respect for international law and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
