Kuwait reaffirms commitment to advancing women’s rights at UN Human Rights Council

Kuwait has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting, empowering, and promoting the rights of women as a core component of the “New Kuwait 2035” vision, fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly Goal 5 on gender equality.
The pledge was delivered by Nada Al-Dhubaib, Second Secretary of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, during an annual discussion on women’s rights held in honor of International Women in Diplomacy Day. The event was part of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
According to KUNA, Al-Dhubaib highlighted Kuwait’s concrete steps to strengthen women’s roles in public life, noting that the country’s Constitution guarantees equality among citizens without discrimination.
She pointed to the formation of a national committee comprised of representatives from government entities and civil society, tasked with implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security. The committee has spearheaded several initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in the security and defense sectors and has collaborated with regional and international organizations on awareness and training programs.
Al-Dhubaib also stressed Kuwait’s firm stance against violence targeting women and girls, citing the establishment of a National Committee for Protection from Domestic Violence, the creation of a specialized public prosecution office, and the launch of support centers offering legal, psychological, and listening services for victims.
She concluded by reaffirming Kuwait’s determination to continue creating an inclusive environment that enables women’s full and effective participation across all sectors.
