Kuwait Customs charts new course for smarter, faster border clearance

The General Administration of Customs has reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to adopting international best practices and modern customs standards, saying its participation in the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council meetings reflects the country’s determination to enhance the efficiency of its customs system and improve the quality of services.
In a statement, the administration said a Kuwaiti delegation, headed by Vice President for Ports, Research and Customs Investigation Affairs Saleh Al-Omar, participated in the 147th and 148th sessions of the WCO Council held in Brussels, Belgium.
The meetings focused on a range of technical issues related to the modernization of customs procedures, with particular emphasis on the implementation of pre-clearance systems.
Delegates also reviewed international initiatives and standards designed to facilitate global trade, strengthen supply chain security, and promote the adoption of digital technologies and innovative solutions in customs operations.
The administration noted that many of the priorities discussed during the sessions are already aligned with Kuwait’s ongoing customs reform agenda.
These include the introduction of a pre-clearance system, the automation of customs procedures, enhanced risk management and smart targeting mechanisms, and the expansion of information-sharing and cooperation with relevant government agencies.
According to the administration, these initiatives are expected to improve operational efficiency, accelerate the movement of legitimate trade, strengthen border security, and support the protection of society and the national economy.
The General Administration of Customs stressed that continued engagement with international customs organizations enables Kuwait to benefit from global expertise while ensuring its customs framework remains in line with evolving international standards and emerging trade requirements.
