ICS presents ‘Izhaar-e-Khayaal’ — A grand celebration of poetry in Kuwait

The Indian Cultural Society (ICS) is delighted to announce “Izhaar-e-Khayaal”, an unforgettable evening dedicated to the timeless art of poetry. The event will take place on Friday, 30th May 2025, at 7:00 PM at the INNOVA International English School Auditorium, located near Alia Hospital in Mahboula, Kuwait.

This cultural evening promises to be a mesmerizing blend of soulful verse, classic ghazals, and contemporary nazms, bringing together poetry lovers for an experience that transcends borders, generations, and genres.

Padma Shri Surendra Sharma, the legendary poet and humorist, will grace the stage with his celebrated wit and charm. Famous for his signature refrain “Chaar Lainaa Suna Raha Hoon”, Sharma has captivated global audiences with his unique blend of humor and satire. His contributions to literature have earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri and Kaka Hathrasi Hasya Samman. A prolific writer, Sharma has authored several renowned books such as Mansarovar Ke Kauwe, Bade-Badon Ke Utpaat, and Ras Kalash. He has also hosted a popular radio show Sharmaji Se Poocho and played a vital role in various literary and cultural institutions.

Joining him is Hon. Imran Pratapgarhi, a celebrated Urdu poet and Member of the Rajya Sabha, whose powerful and poignant nazms resonate with themes of resistance, romance, and social justice. A graduate of Allahabad University, Pratapgarhi has become a voice for the marginalized, using poetry as a tool for truth and empowerment. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Minority Department of the All India Congress Committee and has received the Yash Bharti Award, Uttar Pradesh’s highest civilian honor.

Featuring a Diverse Ensemble of Poets

Azhar Iqbal, a widely acclaimed poet and literary commentator, will bring his sharp insights and lyrical elegance to the stage. Known for his popular ghazals and performances at leading literary festivals like Jashn-e-Rekhta and Shankar Shaad Mushaira, Azhar is also the founder of the Harfkaar Foundation, which promotes poetry, theatre, and Dastangoi.

Habeena Adeeb, a legend in contemporary Urdu poetry, will enchant audiences with her melodious voice and emotionally rich verses. Known for her revolutionary style and global popularity, her book Tum Mere Paas Raho has been widely praised, with another release on the horizon.

Manika Dubey, an emerging force in Hindi poetry, brings the spirit of rural India into her soulful verses. A poetess, lyricist, and composer, she blends social consciousness with lyrical grace, making her performances especially powerful and accessible to the masses.

Abbas Qamar, born in Ghosi, Uttar Pradesh, represents the gentler tones of Urdu poetry. Educated in Persian literature from Lucknow University, he is a regular at Mushairas across India and is currently preparing for the release of his first poetry collection. His recitations are often accompanied by a melodic touch, making his performances particularly moving.

“Izhaar-e-Khayaal” is not just an event — it’s a poetic journey through humor, protest, love, and reflection. The evening will offer a platform for classic and contemporary voices to engage with the community, celebrate artistic expression, and honor the enduring beauty of the spoken word.
