Government agencies review reforms to enhance cross-border trade efficiency

Saleh Al-Omar, Deputy Head of the General Administration of Customs for Ports, Research and Customs Investigation Affairs, emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination and integration among government bodies, as well as expanding cooperation with regional and international organizations, to support sustainable development objectives.
According to a statement issued by the General Administration of Customs last Thursday, Al-Omar made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring Improvement of the Business Environment and Enhancing Competitiveness (Cross-Border Trade Index), which was attended by representatives of government entities involved in customs clearance operations.
During the meeting, Al-Omar highlighted the need to continue reform initiatives and develop the regulatory framework governing business and investment activities, reports Al-Rai daily.
He also stressed the importance of preparing a comprehensive roadmap that sets clear legislative and procedural priorities aimed at improving government service efficiency and strengthening national competitiveness in line with each agency’s mandate.
The statement added that the meeting reflects the Cabinet’s strong focus on improving the business environment as a key pillar for achieving development goals, including economic diversification and investment growth.
It also supports efforts toward building a sustainable economy based on innovation and digital transformation in government services, in line with good governance principles.
The discussions reviewed progress on implementing recommendations and proposals under the national agenda to enhance the business environment.
The meeting brought together representatives from several key institutions, including the Kuwait Investment Promotion Authority, the Ministries of Interior, Commerce and Industry, and Health, as well as the Kuwait Ports Authority, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Public Authority for Industry, and the Public Authority for the Environment.
