Empowering people with disabilities is a humanitarian, national responsibility: Al-Huwailah

Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, said the ministry is committed to supporting and empowering people with disabilities and enhancing their active participation in society.
She emphasized that this valuable group has proven that creativity knows no limits, that insight surpasses sight, and that determination can overcome all circumstances.
This was stated to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) by Dr. Al-Huwailah during her sponsorship and attendance of the closing ceremony of the “Ibrahim Taher Al-Baghli Competition for Distinguished Blind People 2025”, held in observance of International White Cane Day on October 15.

The ceremony was organized by the Lady Nafisa Charitable Foundation in collaboration with the Kuwait Blind Association, with participation from several governmental and civil organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with visual impairments.
Dr. Al-Huwailah stated that the competition provides an opportunity to celebrate perseverance, excellence, and creativity, honoring the exceptional achievements of talented individuals who embody the true meaning of determination and success.
She praised the efforts of the organizing bodies in creating a safe and encouraging environment that enables participants to showcase their talents and capabilities.

The Minister added that the competition reflects the values of solidarity, cooperation, and charitable work, while strengthening partnerships between government institutions and civil society to serve the nation and its people. She extended her gratitude to all those involved in organizing the event—committees, administrators, and volunteers—for their dedication and contribution to its success.
Al-Huwailah stressed that empowering people with disabilities is both a national duty and a humanitarian mission, aligned with the priorities of Kuwait’s wise leadership. She commended the state’s legislation and services that promote the integration and empowerment of people with disabilities across educational, professional, and social fields—implementing the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah that place the human being at the heart of national development.

For his part, Ibrahim Al-Baghli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nafisa Charitable Foundation, underscored the importance of supporting and empowering the visually impaired, describing them as individuals blessed with “light of heart, intelligence of mind, strength of will, and purity of conscience.” He said that true strength lies in insight, not sight, and that those deprived of vision often excel through their inner strength and determination.
Al-Baghli noted that the competition represents an important step toward empowering the blind and encouraging them to achieve and contribute meaningfully to society. He expressed his gratitude to Minister Al-Huwailah for her patronage and to Fayez Lafi Al-Azmi, President of the Kuwait Blind Association, and the Board members for their continuous humanitarian efforts to support and uplift the visually impaired community.
