The Court of Appeal has upheld a lower court verdict requiring a Gulf national residing in Kuwait to officially register his marriage and pay his wife the agreed upon 35,000 dinars dowry.
The court ordered the husband to complete the documentation of the marriage contract through the Sharia Documentation Department, affirming the validity of the marriage and the agreed dowry.
The case was brought by the wife, who sought legal recognition of the marriage and enforcement of her financial rights after the husband allegedly refused to register the marriage contract.
Representing the wife, attorney Alaa Al-Saeedi argued that the husband’s refusal to document the marriage did not invalidate the wife’s legal or financial entitlements.
The court agreed, that the dowry constituted a debt payable by the husband once the marriage agreement had been established.
