The Indian Embassy in Kuwait organized a morning of activities starting at 6 am to celebrate International Yoga Day that is being observed around the world on 21 June. Minister of Amiri Diwan H.E. Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah was the Chief Guest and he passed on gifts of appreciation to the main organizers of the event. Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Sunil Jain welcomed the participants in his speech and the Prime Minister’s message regarding the significance of Yoga Day was broadcast.
A large gathering of different nationalities participated in the workshop led by Kuwait- based organizations, namely ‘Art of Living’, ‘Harmony House’ and ‘Isha Foundation’. Representatives from the organizations demonstrated to participants various Yoga Asanas and the proper techniques, as well as gave instructions for relaxing mediation in another subsequent session. The event followed the guidelines of the Common Yogic Protocol released by the Government of India. For personal use and practice, books and DVDs on Yoga were made available to the public.
The first International Yoga Day in Kuwait is part of the world-wide celebrations taking place after 177 nations, including Kuwait and 47 Organization of Islamic Countries, agreed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal to designate June 21st as the International Yoga Day at the UN General Assembly in September last year.
