Wataniya Telecom and GSM Arab World Successfully Concluded “The 39th GSMAW Event” in Kuwait

Wataniya Telecom, member of Ooredoo Group, concluded the 39th GSM Arab World Annual event which took place for two consecutive days on the 14-15 of April at the Sheraton Hotel Kuwait.

Ministry Of Communication’s Undersecretary in Kuwait Eng. Hameed al-Qattan inaugurated the conference with the attendance of Wataniya Telecom’s GM and CEO Eng. Abdulaziz Fakhroo and the GSM Arab World chairman Zeyad Al-Hasson.

The event which was hosted by Wataniya Telecom in collaboration with the GSM Arab World (GSMAW) - the Arab branch of the GSM Association targeted the meeting of the industry’s new challenges and following its needs.

The hosting of the event by Wataniya reflects its commitment to contributing to sharing the wealth of knowledge among all stakeholders in the telecom’s ecosystem both in Kuwait and the region.

The conference reviewed the current status of the GSM sector across the Arab world, promoted technology, and facilitated the exchange of expertise, created investment opportunities and encouraged innovation and creativity within the ICT sector.

The event’s theme “Telecom Future… Challenges and Opportunities”, witnessed the attendance of more than 230 attendees from more than 20 telecom operators, vendors, banks, embassies, governmental and academic institutions as well as internet service providers.

Significant keynotes and thought-provoking panel discussions took place during the event as well as an exhibition which gathered service provider companies like Huawei, Syniverse, infobip and others all displaying cutting-edge products and technology which defines the mobile future in the MENA region.

Wataniya said the event also targets developing healthy operator competitiveness while turning innovation into an engine for growth.

Some of the key focuses at GSM Arab World #39 were the LTE Roaming current issues, the regulatory landscape in the Arab States as well as identifying opportunities for social and economic impact and stimulate the development of scalable, life-enhancing mobile services like mHealth and mMoney.

The event also included a gala dinner sponsored by Huawei, the leading global ICT solutions provider. Furthermore, tailor-made training sessions took place during the event for both GSMAW members and Media representatives. The media workshop was considered as the first of its kind to be held in Kuwait by Ericsson, the world leader in communications technology and services, where it introduced topics like the evolution of the ICT industry, Kuwait ICT Industry, MOBILE telephony basic components, 2G, 3G, LTE & beyond, LTE Roaming and spectrum for MBB.

Wataniya Telecom said this event is a contribution to the development of the telecom industry in the region and is an excellent opportunity for networking among all stakeholders.

Wataniya further said “The 39th GSMAW event was a great opportunity in bringing together International and regional speakers as well as leaders from the telecom sector. The event is aimed at enhancing the telecom sector’s role of development and is a catalyst in knowledge sharing.”

Wataniya Telecom praised highly the support of both the sponsors and the vendors who played a great role in the support of this event. Wataniya also thanked the Media training provider “Ericsson” for designing a unique workshop aimed at the media for the first time in Kuwait.

The training provided strategic insisght, key market data and provided the right knowledge competencies while keeping the media engaged and progressive.

Wataniya said “Developing people to further increase their capabilities is a priority to us and comes from our belief in enriching people’s lives and providing them with the skills, tools and information to do this. It also emphasizes on our vision to care, connect and challenge. We believe that in order to achieve sustainable assurance for the rapid business growth, the human resources development should be always directed towards innovation”.

Wataniya Telecom concluded by saying that this event will shape the telecom industry and “we will continue to raise the standard of the industry in Kuwait and in the region by hosting similar events which are significant to the development of our country”
