Veteran actor Saeed Jaffery, who delighted fans all over the world with his masterful screen presence and performances, passed away. Jaffery, 86, breathed his last yesterday. The news of his demise was shared on Facebook by his niece Shaheen Aggarwal who wrote, ‘Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away. Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally.’
Born in Punjab, Saeed Jaffery started his career as an actor in theatre. As an actor, he worked with internationally renowned acting luminaries like Sean Connery, Michael Caine (The Man Who Would Be King), and Pierce Brosnan (The Deceivers) among others and world class directors like Satyajit Ray (Shatranj Ke Khiladi) and Richard Attenborough (Gandhi). He was also known for his work in television.
His notable works in Bollywood include ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Henna, Chashme-Baddoor, Judaai, Dil, Ajooba’. Saeed Jaffery was the first Indian to receive the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama.
