Uzbekistan celebrates National Day with gala reception

To commemorate the 27th anniversary of the independence of Uzbekistan, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan H.E. Dr. Bakhromjon Aloev held a reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 24 October. The chief guest on the occasion was the Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Adel Al Kharafi. An exhibition showcasing handicrafts from Uzbekistan was displayed on the sidelines of the celebration, while the visiting Uzbek Youth Orchestra provided the entertainment for the evening with a spectacular rendition of music.

Former President of the Uzbek Islam Karimov declared Uzbekistan independent from the USSR on 31 August, 1991, and the country adopted a resolution that declared the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Following its independence, Uzbekistan witnessed rapid development in all spheres of the economy, along with a rebirth of the country’s art, culture and traditional customs.

In particular, the tourism sector has seen remarkable growth since 1991, with ancient cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Shakhrisabz, Termez and Tashkent all witnessing a revival, as people from all over the world came to visit these historical cities along the old Silk Road.
