Ukrainian Dance Ensemble to perform in Kuwait

The Embassy of Ukraine in collaboration with the National Council of Culture, Arts and Letters (NCAAL) presents a dance performance by the Virsky National Dance Ensemble of Ukraine. The event will be held on 21 January, 2019 at 7:30 pm in Abdelhussain Abdulridha Theatre as part of the 25th Qurain Cultural Festival.  

Virsky National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine is a Ukrainian dance company based in Ukraine, and is well known for its innovative approach to the art form. The Ensemble was founded in 1937 by Pavlo Virsky and Mykola Bolotov, and guided by Pavlo Virsky until his death in 1975.

During World War II, Virsky performed for the soldiers at the front. In 1980, the company's artistic direction was overtaken by Myroslav Vantukh, who had been a disciple of Pavlo Virsky.

The main goal of Virsky National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine activities encompasses collecting, study and preservation of national traditions, customs and rites of the Ukrainian people, and creating, on this basis, folk dances and new choreographic miniatures and large works depicting the past and the present life of the Ukrainians.

Virsky National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine is famous far beyond the borders of Ukraine.

It visited more than 80 countries with the honorary mission of the peace ambassador, including Vietnam, Korea, China, Cuba, Austria, England, Canada, the USA, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, Andorra, Japan, and other countries, where it has always demonstrated with honor the achievements of the national culture, made all possible contribution into the development of world culture.

Today, Virsky National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine is in the prime of its creative strengths and, headed by the Hero of Ukraine, the People’s Artist of Ukraine, T. Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine Laureate, professor, academician Myroslav Vantukh, works actively on the perfection of its professional level, replenishes its repertoire with new works, conducts an active creative life, promoting Ukrainian choreographic art both inside and outside Ukraine.
