A decision was issued Wednesday by the concerned US authorities to release Kuwaiti detainee Fayez Al- Kanderi after 13 years in captivity, said Khalid Al-Ouda, head of the committee for families of Kuwaitis held in Guantanamo Prison.
He added the detainee was notified about the decision by the military representative of the council who explained that the step follows a memo the US Defense Secretary referred to Congress to grant the detainee access to the content of the resolution. He explained that Kuwait will receive its citizen within 45 to 60 days after the delivery of the memo.
Al-Ouda congratulated HH the Amir, the government and the entire Kuwaiti nation on the achievement, which he said is the fruit of diligent efforts exerted by the country in pressing for Al-Kanderi’s release.
