Kerala woke up on Sunday morning to the news that a man in Keekozhoor near Ranni in the Pathanamthitta district killed his two nephews by slitting their throats.
The two boys, Melbin, 7, and Mobin, 4, were allegedly killed by their father Shaiju’s brother, Shibu. The boys’ mother, Bindu was also attacked by Shibu before he killed the two children.
Early reports indicate that a family feud over the partition of property had led to the crime. The boys were quickly rushed to a hospital in Kozhencherry, but were declared dead on arrival. Their father, Shaiju is based in the Gulf.
Shibu has been taken into police custody. He later exhibited uneasiness and was taken to hospital on suspicion that he had consumed poison. Shibu had also set fire to the bedroom after killing the boys. Reports said Mobin was asleep when the crime was committed.
In another incident, a child under the care of Child Line in Ernakulam was reported missing on Sunday. The missing boy, aged about 10, was mentally ill and had been brought into Child Line’s care from Kozhikode.
