The Ambassador of Turkey to Kuwait H.E. Ayse Hilal Sayan Koytak along with the country’s Military Attaché to Kuwait, Colonel Bahtiyar Eren, hosted a reception on 30 August at the Marina Hotel to commemorate the 96th Anniversary of the Victory Day of Turkey. Kuwait army Major General Humood al Husaini was the chief guest at the function. Also in attendance were members of the diplomatic corps, Kuwaiti officials, special invitees and media personnel.

In her speech to the gathering, Ambassador Koytak explained the historical significance of Turkey’s Victory Day. She stated, “The First World War brought the Ottoman Empire to an end and the whole Empire was invaded by the foreign powers. In 1919, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish Nation initiated an Independence War against the invaders and fought for its very existence.

“On 30 August, 1922, the final battle of the Turkish Independence War in Dumlup─▒nar against the invading forces was won by the Turkish Army and since then, the 30th of August has been commemorated and celebrated as Victory Day. This year we celebrate the 96th anniversary of this glorious victory which paved the way for the foundation of our modern state one year later.”

She went on to read out the message from Turkish President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdo─čan on the occasion of Victory Day to his people. The message stated, “I commemorate Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the commander-in-chief of our War of Independence, and all the members of our military who gifted us this victory, with gratitude and respect and wish Allah’s mercy upon our martyrs and veterans.

“We declared in the Battle of Çanakkale, in which we fought the great powers against all odds, that our fight starting with the Battle of Malazgrit to keep Anatolia as our homeland will never end. The Victory of August 30th is the stamp of our determination’s new upsurge. Turkish Nation showed the world its ambition to protect its liberty and future against the imperialist desires on July 15.

“Turkey’s achievement of its 2023 aims will guide our own future as well as the future of our whole region. Like our other victories, August 30th also marks that there is always an open path in front of us to reach success, no matter how challenging the conditions are. The progress achieved by our country in the last sixteen years has proved to us that this is possible. And today, I believe we are on the verge of new victories and successes. We will surely win this fight too, with the support of those who trust in Turkey and in the Turkish Nation.”
