To celebrate the country’s Victory Day, Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Murat Tamer and Military Attache Staff Colonel Mikhail Gullu, held a reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel last week.
Victory Day in Turkey commemorates the key Turkish victory against foreign forces in the Battle of Dumlupınar (26-30 August 1922). The outcome of the battle, which took place in Kütahya province in western Turkey, determined the overall outcome of the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923).
Although foreign forces left the country for good in the autumn of 1922, Turkish people accept August 30 as the date of the Turkish troops’ overall victory. It became a national holiday in 1935.
On the occasion, Ambassador Tamer spoke of the excellent ties with Kuwait in all spheres and the growing cooperation between the two nations. There have been several high level visits between the two nations in the last year. The reception was attended by diplomats, military attaches and media persons.
