Move ‘will place drivers of such vehicles under obligation of complying with Kuwaiti law’
Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Abdullah Al-Muhanna affirmed that a plan will be applied soon to register data of the vehicles in Kuwait that carry number plates from GCC countries, reports Al-Shahed daily.
He said it has come to their notice that many citizens, expatriates and Bedoun residents use vehicles that carry number plates of Gulf countries and commit traffic violations, taking advantage of the lack of database for the Gulf number plates in the system of the General Traffic Department.
Major General Al-Muhanna stressed the keenness of the General Traffic Department to apply the law and the traffic rules to monitor and deter drivers of such vehicles from committing offenses and endangering the lives of others. He affirmed that instructions have been sent to all departments and traffic patrols to stop motorists driving such vehicles and register their data in a special form so that they will be held responsible for any violations recorded on the vehicles.
Meanwhile, sources praised such a decision because it will place the drivers of vehicles with GCC number plates under the obligation of complying with the law and will hold them accountable for any offenses and force them to pay fines resulted from committing violations. They indicated that the administration of traffic violations has recorded large sums of fines including a fine of nearly KD 22,000 against one of these vehicles.
