Assistant Undersecretary for Maintenance Affairs at Ministry of Public Works Mohammad bin Nakhi says the ministry is currently coordinating with Ministry of Finance regarding the project for maintenance of left emergency lanes of several ring roads, following the recent announcement made by Minister of Interior to allow vehicles to use emergency lanes at maximum speed of 45 km/hr during heavy traffic jams, reports a local daily.

In a press statement, he revealed that the ministry is also coordinating with Ministry of Interior regarding this project, indicating that Ministry of Public Works and Ministry of Finance will soon produce a cost study of the project especially since Ministry of Finance had reduced the current budget of the Maintenance Affairs Sector.

He also indicated that the concerned bodies will require time to prepare the emergency lanes for its smooth use. Bin Nakhi added that the Maintenance Affairs Sector will also coordinate with the Financial Affairs Sector regarding the current fiscal year’s maintenance contracts particularly those that are yet to be endorsed.
