Kuwaiti detectives have arrested three officials accused of smuggling out of the country people facing legal action.

The accused smugglers charged KD250-400 per person to help them flee the Gulf state. Kuwait has attempted to crackdown on wanted people fleeing the country. Last month it said it was seeking an extradition treaty with the UK, where it says hundreds of wanted people were residing.

The government claims public funds have been embezzled to the UK by former state employees and it is unable to reclaim the money or prosecute alleged criminals because they have fled abroad. The government said it was attempting to extradite 214 people accused of crimes who were no longer in the country.

Minister of Justice Yaqoub Al Sanee recently held a meeting with UK Secretary of State for Justice Chris Grayling in the UK to discuss the matter, state news agency KUNA reported.
