The British Academy of Sport (BAS) and the Romanian Embassy in Kuwait organized the Third International Basketball Tournament between various Embassies in Kuwait on Friday, 25 November at the BSK Campus.
A total of 12 teams represented their countries competed: Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Greece, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Philippines, Romania, Serbia and USA. The opening ceremony saw the teams parade with their flags and mascots dressed in national costume past the reviewing stand of VIPs, seven Ambassadors, including the British Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Matthew Lodge and the Patron of the Tournament the Romanian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Daniel Tanase. The captains drew the numbers, the games began and the spectators from the various communities spurred on their teams with a great sense of national pride.
It was an amazing day with very strong teams and challenging matches. The semifinals were played between Lebanon and Serbia and Egypt against Jordan. The winners of the ‘Challenge Cup’ were the Egyptian team who won 4 rounds including the final game against the Lebanese team.
The Director of British Academy of Sport, Lucian Anisia, the HR Director Adam Al Saleh joined the Romanian Ambassador on stage and the special Guest Faisal Buressli representing FIBA for a lively presentation ceremony where medals and gift bags were distributed to everyone. There was a tremendous roar of celebration from the Egyptian supporters when Captain Ahmed Saqer held the Challenge Cup aloft.

Since 2014 it has become a tradition at BAS to organize high caliber community sports events and invite all the Embassies to participate every February in a Volleyball Tournament and every November in a Basketball Tournament.
