Thanima's festive Onathanima 2015 a grand success

The mega sports event and carnival - Onathanima 2015 - organized by Thanima, the Socio-cultural Group, showcased a variety of programs amidst a jam-packed audience cheering at the ICS grounds.  The cultural procession welcoming the guests of honors had the perfect ambience and color with a wide variety of traditional art forms depicting the true spirit and unison of Kerala’s cultural enigma. ‘Kuttithanima’, the children’s wing of Thanima gave a heartwarming patriotic song.

The public meeting was presided over by Johney Kunnil (Onathanima General Conv.) in which the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E.  Sunil Jain was the esteemed chief guest.  The event was blessed with the presence of a galaxy of dignitaries with Gen. Ali Hamdan Al Daihani (Consultant, Farwaniya Governorate), Fahd Salam Saad Al-Fajji (Protocol Officer), Colonel Ibrahim Abdthul Razak (Jleeb Shuyoukh Chief of Police) and Capt. Dari Waleed Al-Hassan as the guests of honor. 

Twenty students, one each from each Indian School, received the coveted ‘Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Pearl of the School award’, for their excellence in academics, extracurricular, social and other areas from Mr. Jain and Col. Ibrahim Abthul Razak. The nominees were honored and applauded with laurels of victory by the crowd. 

‘Asrayathanima’  a new initiative of Charity projects by Thanima was introduced by Adv. John Thomas and the first phase of the project – Bini Antony Educational Endowment - envisaging financial support to the bright poor students from Government schools in Kerala was inaugurated subsequently.  A cheque for Rs. 15 lakhs from Thanima members being the initial contribution was received by H.E. Sunil Jain from Raghunathan Nair, who released it and handed over to George Thomas, the Chairman of Asrayathanima. In the next four years, the amount will be raised to Rs. 50 lakhs and support in other areas also will be considered.

The newly introduced ‘Bini Antony Excellence award’  (a gold medal and certificate) for the best all-rounder from United Indian School was given away to Gayatri Mohandas.
 
The dais was blessed with the honoring of the legendary Artist Sujathan, who was the only recipient of 18 Kerala State awards consecutively, with Thanima Lifetime Achievement award.  Also two of Thanima members - Dr. Johnarts Kalabhavan (caricaturist holding World record) and Mary John, recipient of special appreciation from Govt. of India - were also honored on the occasion.

An updated ‘Directory of Indian Associations’ in Kuwait was released by Mathews Varghese of BEC, handing over the first copy to Jomon Manguzhikary and Usha Dileep. 

Musical symphony sessions by ‘Kuwait Melodies’ in which Kuwait singer Mubarak Al Rashid sang beautiful melodies, was a soother to the flamboyant crowd amidst the nail biting Tug O’ War competition, in which an array of energetic and spirited participants (24 male teams and 2 female teams), vying for the Sancelia Ever rolling Gold Cup and cash prizes competed.  In a tight match with close finish, Team ‘Aha Challengers’ claimed the first prize of Sancelia Ever rolling Gold cup and KD. 351/-  Moon KKDA was the 1st runner-up making themselves eligible for ‘Blueline’ ever rolling trophy and KD. 251/- followed by ‘Blueline KKB’ as 2nd runner-up claiming Aji memorial rolling trophy and KD. 151/- cash prize.  

Through gallop poll, participated by thousands of enthusiastic sports lovers, KIENCA Green won the trophy and special prize for the ‘Most popular team’.  A team member and his family will get a special holiday package  from ‘Nest N Mist’ at Bathery.   All the teams played in the quarter finals of the match were given special cash prizes and trophies, besides trophies for participation to all the participating teams.  Individual medals and certificates were also given to all the members of the winning teams.  The program started at 3:00 pm and lasted for 12 hours was telecasted live as per public demand from other countries. 

Representing main sponsors, Hamza Payyannoor (CEO, Metro Medical Care), Mathews Varghese (Country Head, BEC), B.P. Nasser (Director, Frontline Logistics), Suresh (Sales Director, Apex International),  Anit Peter (GM, Bluestar Logistics) attended the function along with Mrs. Santha Maria James (Principal of Indian Central School and Advisory Board member), Raghunathan Nair, Biju Pappachan, Sharafudin Kannethu, Thomas K. Thomas, Miss. Alisha.

Babuji Bathery coordinated the programs with the support of Pennthanima & Hardcore members.    Manoj Kumar (Jt. Gen. Conv.) delivered the welcome speech and Mrs. Mary John (Jt. Gen. Conv.) proposed the vote of thanks.  As always Onathanima headed forth onto a victorious curtain fall with an elaborate teamwork and unison from all its members and well wishers.
