Last week, Tesla's CEO Elon Musk personally unveiled the company’s new Model X electric SUV on stage in front a select gathering of invitees at the company’s home in Fremont, California. Apart from its looks, specs and features including the iconic ‘falcon wing’ doors that set the Model X apart from any high-end SUV on the market, there is the fact that the vehicle is powered by 90 kWh battery that gives it a range of over 400km on a single charge. With a top speed of 250kph and the ability to go from 0 to 100kmh in as little as 3.2 seconds with the Ludicrous speed upgrade, the Model X is also capable of towing anything weighing up to 2,750kg while seating 7 in comfort.
The Model X also features Autopilot — Tesla's semi-autonomous driving system — and both active and passive safety features that are way above anything in its class. The vehicle also features a ‘bio-weapon’ defense mode which employs an outstanding air filtration system, which is not only10 times larger than that found in other cars, but is also reputed to be 300 times better at filtering bacteria, 500 times better at filtering allergens, 700 times better at filtering smog, and 800 times better at filtering viruses than any other vehicle air filter.
Prices for the top-of-the-range Signature Model X will come in at between $132,000 and $144,000, depending on the options you choose. Although a firm price has yet to be announced for the entry level version of the Model X, it is expected to cost around $80,000.
