Two Dubai restaurants under the Taj Mahal Group have been shut down temporarily after a diner found a cockroach in his meal, it has been reported. Dubai Municipality fined owners of Taj Spice and Wok & Spice after a resident found the insect in a chola bhatura dish he ordered from the Taj Spice outlet at a mall food court.
The diner took pictures of the cockroach and filed a complaint with mall management, who called the municipality.
"We were asked to replace our wooden furniture with other material since wood helps gather small cockroaches," a restaurant supervisor told Khaleej Times.
Both outlets will re-open after five working days following a municipality inspection, said the report. Taj Mahal Group CEO P Venkatesh said in a statement: "We truly regret this unfortunate incident and apologize to our customer who was inconvenienced." He said management had undertaken "a thorough pest control of all our food handling areas".
