Suspected fake certificate holders reach fifty

Assistant Undersecretary for Scholarship, Equivalency and Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Higher Education Fatima Al-Senan disclosed that the number of fake certificates referred to the Public Prosecution has so far reached 50 and most of them were issued by a certain Arab country while the highest degree in such certificates is law, reports Al- Qabas daily.
Al-Senan told the daily that the checking process is ongoing, stressing a fake certificate will be referred to the prosecution immediately after discovery.
She said the ministry started noticing the good impact of the enforcement of the decision that obligating students on scholarship to pass the IELTS and TOEFL after 93 percent of these students reached the countries where they will study.
She revealed the budget for scholarships reached KD600 million while the number of students on scholarship reached 18,000 and most of them are studying in the USA.
She affirmed that coordination between the ministry and relevant bodies are ongoing through a committee headed by the Supreme Council for Planning and Development with the Ministry of Higher Education and other educational institutions as members to ensure the educational outputs match the needs of the local labor market. She confirmed the new specializations needed by the labor market were included in the scholarship program this year.
