Dr. Wafa Al-Hashash, Head of the Liver and Digestive System Unit at Sabah Health Zone, warned of the growing number of Stomach Bug cases in Kuwait. She stressed that over half of the world’s population is already infected with this bug, also known as stomach spiral bacteria, which leads to stomach and duodenum ulcers and, sometimes to cancer.
Many people might not even realize they are infected with these bacteria that cause symptoms like congestion, abdominal pain, contraction and iron deficiency, Dr Hashash said. She added that the infection is caused by contaminated food or water. It can be detected by blood tests, gastroscopy and stomach biopsy, she said.
