The Golden Jubilee celebrations of St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church Sunday School, Kuwait - the largest Sunday School of Malankara Orthodox Church – was inaugurated by Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Sunil Jain, in a glittering ceremony at Al Jeel Al-Jadeed school.
The one year celebrations will mark as well the golden jubilee of Sunday School OKR (Outside Kerala Region) besides the formation of OSSAE (Orthodox Syrian Sunday School Association of the East) 350 years ago.
A specially designed Golden Jubilee flag, brought in procession by the students and handed over to General convener P.C. George and Headmaster Kurien Varghese was hoisted at the venue by HG. Mathews Mar Theodosius, Metropolitan of Idukki Diocese, while the Sunday school junior choir recited the melodious golden Jubilee theme song composed by M.U. Mathews.
Golden Jubilee logo was released by the Indian Ambassador H.E. Sunil Jain, and the Golden Jubilee Medallion was released by H.G. Mathews Mar Theodosius. The occasion was witnessed by socio-cultural-religious leaders, community representatives, priests from various parishes and multitude of Sunday school students, teachers and parish members.
The Sunday school of St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church in Kuwait had a meek start in 1964, and has grown to be the largest Sunday school in Malankara church with 1350 students and 135 teachers in fifty years.
Programs planned during the one year celebrations are scholarship to students, financial assistance to needy children in and outside Kuwait, other charity projects, teachers training, workshops, seminars, family meet, inter-Sunday school competitions, Alumni meet of students from Kuwait and other GCC countries, honoring teachers serving above 25 years and so on. A web portal to enhance Sunday school studies will be launched shortly, open to everyone in the world.
The golden jubilee medallion will be given to all parish members as a souvenir. A ‘Reference Book’ with particular emphasis to the history of 350 years of Sunday school in Indian Orthodox Church (Malankara Sabha) and the milestones and main events of Kuwait Sunday school in last fifty years will be published. A Golden jubilee supplement also will be published.
OSSAE president HG. (Dr.) Yakoob Mar Irenius, OSSAE-OKR president HG. (Dr.) Joseph Mar Dionysious, experts from various fields are expected to lead various programs during the celebration period.
The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony to be held in November 2015 will be H.H. Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the supreme head of Indian Orthodox Church.
There are 15 committees constituted for the successful implementation of various programs, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Raju Thomas (Vicar), Rev. Fr. Reji C. Varghese (Associate Vicar), P.C. George (General Convener), Lalu Jacob (Jt. Gen. Convener) and Kurien Varghese (Headmaster).
