Sri Lanka celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on the 14 April 2014. To share the happiness of the Sri Lankan people during this festive season Mrs. Jayalakshmi Wijeratne, wife of the Sri Lankan Ambassador, hosted an array of cultural events at the Radisson Blu Hotel during the International Women’s Group monthly meeting which was held on 4 May 2014. At the start of the program, the traditional oil lamp was lit by the ladies from a multitude of backgrounds.

The audience was simply mesmerized by the fascinating performances by world renowned percussionist Jananath Warakagoda and a group of dancers from the Channa-Upuli dance troupe. The troupe was brought to Kuwait through the courteous sponsorship of the Al-Mulla Exchange to perform for twenty thousand Sri Lankans at Qadisiya on 3 May.

A range of Sri Lankan dishes were prepared by the Radisson Blu Hotel’s culinary department in an eye-pleasing manner. The Sri Lankan Embassy enhanced the event by organizing valuable prizes for raffle winners via the generous sponsorships of Jetwing Travels, Kuwait Airways and Crowne Plaza Hotel. Amaya Wijeratne, daughter of the Sri Lankan Ambassador acted as the M.C of this successful event.

The magnificent event ended with many members of the IWG saying that they planned to visit Sri Lanka. This event demonstrated the beauitful culture of Sri Lanka, which is what makes Sri Lanka the Wonder of Asia.
