South Koreans celebrate National Foundation Day and Armed Forces Day

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea H.E. Dr. Hong Youngki held a reception at the Jumeirah Hotel on 3 October to mark the National Foundation Day and Armed Forces Day of his country.

A large gathering of diplomats, businessmen, media personnel and South Korean nationals attended the reception held to mark the occasion.

A ceremonial cake was cut by Minister of Public Works Jenan Al Bousheri along with Ali Al Sayeed, Assistant minister for Foreign Affairs. Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Youngki pointed at the fast-increasing trade volume between Kuwait and South Korea, which exceeded $10 billion in 2017, which indicated the strong economic cooperation between he two nations.

He noted that Kuwait was the third largest construction market for Korea and the two countries had actively contributed to each other’s economic development. Elaborating on this, he said Korea was proud to participate in many infrastructure projects like Mubarak Port and the New Refinery Project, as well as building one of the world’s longest bridges, the Sheikh Jaber Causeway Bridge.

Ambassador Youngki also pointed out that the bilateral relationship further extended to new areas such as medical services, smart cities and management of T4 terminal at Kuwait International Airport.

On the cultural front, he said new areas of cooperation in the education field, including an agreement to send Kuwaiti students to Korean universities with scholarship, was just signed. He also revealed that the Kuwait-Korean Cultural Diwaniya had held many events to increase people to people exchanges, and that on 20 October a Korean troupe would visit and perform in Kuwait.
