Shrimps catch best compared to previous years

Shrimps wholesale supplies soared to 800 fully loaded baskets (a basket contains minimum 20 kg) per day this year’s season as compared to 300-400 to the past year season, said the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) on Friday. PAAAFR marine supervision director Marzoug Al-A’zmi said in a statement that the current season for catching the shrimps is the best as compared to the previous years.

Local markets have been swamped with unprecedented large quantities of shrimps since start of the season early August, he said alluding to the production fl ourish to PAAAFR’s effective efforts and plans to regulate shrimps’ catching.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chairman of Kuwait Farmers Association Abdullah Al-Dammak disclosed that series of meeting with officials of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) led to significant results in the interest of Kuwaiti farmers and farm produce.

Al-Dammak added government subsidies on some products harvested in northern and southern Kuwait have been increased, while discussions held with officials of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) on a regular basis to secure preliminary approval for the reduction of diesel prices for vehicles transport farm produce and those supplying fruits and vegetables to supermarkets in Sulaibiya and Andalous areas yielded positive results.

He declared all details about the progress made so far will be announced to reveal efforts exerted in breaking the barriers before Kuwaiti farmers to guarantee availability of farm produce from Wafra and Abdali in the markets.
