With a little practice and a whole lot of eyeliner, a daring electric hue is surprisingly easy to pull off. Read on for some tips to rock the neon bright eyeliner trend.
Not-so-mellow yellow: Bold yellow liner that's a step below neon is especially striking against darker skin tones. When wearing a bold eye, women with a darker skin tone are advised to keep the rest of their face a bit tame. Keep the focus on the liner by skipping eye shadow and keeping the rest of your face natural. Get a smooth, thick line by using an angled eyeliner brush to sweep on a gel liner in a creamy yellow. You can also smudge a pencil liner in yellow, along your upper lash line to create a thick line. For added drama, extend the line into the inner corner and down to the lower lash line.
Purple haze: If you're a little eyeliner challenged, this look is for you. Bright purple smudged along the lower lash line is a lived-in departure from some of the more precise looks, and is an easy way to test out colored liner without the time commitment of creating a full-blown cat eye. For a perfectly unperfect smudged line, first line the lower lash line by wiggling a creamy pencil in a violet hue along the roots of the lashes for depth. Then use the skinny end of brush to buff it out.
A "neutral" pop of color: Ease your way into colored liner with a cat eye in a striking blue hue. Cobalt blue is a great neutral on almost anyone, and it has enough depth to give your eye strong definition and shape, but the pop of color will stand out alone. For a party, you can take the look into evening territory by accompanying a cobalt blue liner with glittery gold along the lash line, this look is easy to tweak for daytime.
Just skip the gold and still get a gorgeous, bold look. Use small strokes to apply a blue waterproof long lasting eyeliner to your upper lash line. Flick the liner up at the ends, and if your cat eye freehand skills need a little work, touch up the lines with an angled eyeliner brush.
New trip for Neon: Neon green liner gets a sultry twist, thanks to a subtle dusting of shimmery nude eye shadow, perfectly groomed lashes and barely noticeable black liner right along the lash line. When wearing shadow and a bright liner, a good rule of thumb is to contrast the look of the liner with the shadow. So if your liner is shimmery, opt for a matte shadow and vice versa.
Dust an eye shadow one shade darker than your skin tone over your eyelid. Using a black precision eyeliner, draw a thin line along your upper lash line, stopping at the outer corner of your eye. Trace above the line with a liquid in an emerald color or, you can try an iridescent lime green pencil.
