Security sources warn against posting fake images of rains
November 15, 2018, 1:14 pm

The posting of fake videos and photographs on social media sites is against the law said an informed source at the Ministry of Interior. In recent days, several people have been summoned for questioning by the Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Interior for having posted fake images of the flooding and damage caused by recent rains in Kuwait and neighboring countries.

The security source confirmed that if convicted, the social media users would be referred to relevant authorities and charged with the misuse of social media and the spreading rumors. The authorities have requested all social media users to avoid spreading rumors and forwarding images that have not been verified as factual.

They pointed out that the Cybersecurity Department had the ability to precisely monitor and follow-up everything published online, while noting that citizens had the right to lodge complaints in this regard.
