Seafood that is truly a sensation at Zafran
July 23, 2016, 2:56 pm

Zafran Indian Bistro, the award-winning contemporary Indian restaurant’s new seafood sensation menu is a delightful treat for seafood lovers in the country. Creating an unbeatable mix of quality and taste, guests are treated to a pleasurable dining out experience.

Our experience at the restaurant began with a warm welcome before being seated and thus began a seafood voyage unlike anything we had in the recent past.

The seafood soup flavored with cinnamon and saffron was nothing like we tasted before so it was hard to compare, yet it left us yearning for more while preparing us for the feast to follow. Our first appetizer the Jinga Anari, which was king prawn marinated with lemon, cheese, and pomegranate, char-grilled in a tandoor, was a sumptuous delight. Unlike most places the prawn was truly king sized and the unique marinating process enhanced the flavor and taste. The cheese and the pomegranate’s flavor was mild and the chef got it just right making it a light, healthy and tasty dish.

Next was the Tandoori Lobster, the signature dish that we were so looking forward to, and it did not disappoint. Fresh lobsters and prawns are tasty seafood dishes that do not need too much of marinating, so it was a challenge for the chefs to get the flavor just right and that they did. The large Tandoori Lobster was well grilled and the garlic, ginger, lemon and tandoori spices were flavored to perfection.

The portions were substantial and every dish looked as appealing as they tasted, but by then we were quite full. Nevertheless, we had a go at the Jumbo Prawn Biryani, with king prawns, fragrant basmati rice, saffron, caramelized onions and other spices, which were served in the Dum style that enhanced the flavors to extraordinary perfection. The succulent prawns in the biryani and the rice were truly delicious and tempted us to overeat.

Our seafood voyage came to a perfect ending with traditional Indian sweet dishes of Gulab Jumon and Kulfi. Though we would have loved to taste the Fish Chutney Tikka, fish fillet marinated with lemon, fresh coriander, ginger and garlic, we left it out for our next visit.

Our culinary experience at Zafran was a unique one as we enjoyed the delicious, freshly prepared food that appealed to our palate in the most memorable way. Experimenting with Indian food is not easy and the seafood experience we had was a thumbs-up experience. Though we tried only a few dishes, the subtle yet complex flavors were light on our stomach and the taste was truly unforgettable.

Zafran focuses on North-West Indian food and has a large variety of dishes on their menu. It is apparent that the chefs are highly skilled and that there is a lot of attention to detail in everything. The ambience and service is also something to mention about, as both complemented the excellent meal we had.
The atmosphere was made as relaxing as possible in a contemporary and casual setting without any blaring music, allowing guests to enjoy and relish the experience. There were also no gaps in service despite it being a busy day at the restaurant.

The Seafood Sensation menu is a limited time offering and will be available only until the end of September. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from 12pm to 12am and is located in the Lights Complex in Mahboula.
