Saudi custom officials seized 48,000 cans of beer after they foiled an attempt to smuggle them across the UAE border disguised as Pepsi cans.
The attempt to smuggle the cans was detected at the Al Batha border crossing with the UAE. Saudi customs shared the details of how the disguises were cleverly made with plastic coverings placed on the cans, which were wrapped in regular-looking packaging.
Al Batha border General Manager Abdulrahman Al Mahna said officials discovered the contraband during a routine search of the vehicle.
“A truck carrying what first seemed to be normal cans of the soft drink Pepsi was stopped and after the standard process of searching the products, it became clear that the alcoholic beers were covered with Pepsi’s sticker logos,” he said, according to a report on Al Arabiya News.
