SanDisk’s 400GB microSD card is the largest ever
September 10, 2017, 1:54 pm

Many mobile phone manufacturers now tout devices that have microSD storage capacities of up to 2TB; the downside is that there are no cards with such capacity presently in the market. SanDisk is looking to change that scenario with its announcement last week of a new 400GB microSD card. We agree that 400GB is not 2TB, but, as SanDisk claims, this is currently the world’s largest storage capacity for microSD cards.

Not only is SanDisk’s 400GB monster the biggest yet, it beats out the previous record holder — Samsung’s 256GB card from last year — by a considerable margin. On the more technical side of things, the 400GB card can transfer files at up to 100MB/s, is classified as a SDXC UHS-I card, and is rated as an App Performance Class A1 device, meaning that it will run apps well.

As with any new tech, the catch is in the price. Though no date has been announced for its retail launch, the 400GB microSD is expected to carry a price tag of around $250
