SEWA Day – a pure voluntary selfless service was celebrated by Smart Indian School (SIS) with a community service project titled ‘Cleanliness’. The grade 6 students from CBSE International curriculum made a difference that day with their incredible spirit and tenacity.
As Mother Teresa once said, ‘I alone cannot change the world. But I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples’, the children had a dexterous grip over words as their voices resonated across the classrooms holding placards and parading the surroundings: ‘Green planet is a Clean Planet’, ‘ Clean up the World….. Our Place…. Our Planet ’. In addition they carried out the act of cleanliness in a pragmatic level through their actions such as walking, discussion and cleaning and disseminating the message on the right way of disposal of wastes intermittently.
This small step from the end of every child of grade 6 was a big step for fulfilling the purpose of Social Empowerment through Work and Action sessions. The facilitator insisted that the children should never compromise with cleanliness; it is as necessary as food and water for them. Few documentary videos and group discussions prior to this day of celebration brought home the message to all of them that cleanliness should be practiced from the childhood and nurtured as they change into adults taking it as their first and foremost responsibility.
