Royal Coast, Behbehani clinch GC trophies

In an exciting and nail biting match, Royal Coast cricket club prevailed over a spirited challenge posed by Desert Warriors to lift the prestigious Gulf Consults Cup trophy.  In the Plate finals played at on Gulf Consults  ground, Behbehani cricket team defeated Enigma by 5 wickets to get hold of the Plate final trophy. The tournament was organized by Gulf Consults, a leading and pioneer organizer in promoting cricket in Kuwait under the auspicious of Kuwait Cricket.

In the GC Cup final, Royal Coast and Desert Warriors brushing their skills and gave the spectators their time worth as the match went on till the last over and in a thrilling game Royal Coast holding their nerves till the final ball won by 9 runs.

Batting first, Royal Coast got on to a positive start as Amjad, their opener produced the sort of innings that any captain would like as he plundered runs at will. Amjad elegantly crafted his innings and played some extraordinary shots with confidence and his polished knock of 59 runs in 35 balls had 8 hits to the fence.

A sudden collapse resulted in Royal Coast loosing 3 quick wickets which brought Omar & Osman together and the duo blossomed gradually to put 74 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. Both the batsmen came good just when Royal Coast needed them, rekindling the form to rescue their team from a shaky middle order collapse. Omar scored a dashing 36 runs and played the pull shot with awesome power,  while Osman plundered a quick fire 22 runs as he whipped three consecutive hits to the fence to give their team the needed boost. A late onslaught of 28 runs in just 14 deliveries by Saleem was another highlight of Royal Coast's innings which enabled them to post a decent total of 193 runs in 20 overs. Sajid was the most economical bowler for Desert Warriors with a tight spell of 2 for 20 in 4 overs.

Dessert Warriors openers chasing a huge total took the challenge to the Royal Coast camp as Sajid the all rounder timed the ball with great punch to launch a fierce attack. A flowing cover drive which rattled into the boundary board was the shot of the day. Usman on the other hand started slowly but soon matched his senior partner as he played with determination and called his shots to perfection. 

Usman's innings of 53 runs was worth a ton of gold and Desert Warriors were possibly eyeing a great victory when these two batsmen were at crease. Sajid meanwhile scored his half century and in an unfortunate mix up was run out at a crucial time after top scoring with 65 valuable runs. Needing to accelerate the scoring, Usman mistimed an attempted lofted shot and was caught at mid on for a cracking 53 runs. 

Needing almost 10 runs an over, Arif did not give up his heart as he slammed a useful 23 runs but Afzaal bowling the 19th over of the match turned the match in Royal Coast's favor by bowling a nagging and accurate over as he conceded just 4 runs in that over to highlight his match figures of 1 for 14 in four overs. Requiring 20 runs in the last over, Desert Warriors fought like true Warriors but lost the game by a margin of 9 runs.

Amjad of Royal Coast was declared Player of the match for his dashing knock of 59 runs. Riding on a magnificent 79 runs, Mirza guided Behbahani cricket team to an exciting 5 wickets win over ENIGMA in the Plate finals of the Gulf Consults trophy.

Electing to bat first on a beautiful sunny afternoon, ENIGMA openers laid a solid foundation as Nasser & Mussafar batted beautifully to post 59 runs partnership. Mussafar returning to form with a swashbuckling 38 runs while Isthiyaq building a firm foundation with some quick singles slowly accelerated to knock a useful 38 runs.

A minor collapse triggered the scoring rate in the 11th over but Zahoor and Yassir stood firm to notch up another fruitful partnership of 65 runs. Zahoor went of aggressively and both the batsmen appeared to be in good nick as they rotated the strikes with some well runs singles & doubles. A thumping drive straight down the ground by Zahoor was a treat to watch. Zahoor's well timed innings of 52 runs and Yasser with a fighting 25 runs helped ENIGMA to post a challenging total of 182 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing almost 9 runs per over is always a challenging task for any team but the determined Behbahani players doing their home work well started in a positive note. The tall & lanky Mirza was in full command from the word go and hit the cherry with precise timing and stole a clear initiative from the Enigma bowlers. Mirza cut & drove and flourished with a couple of handsome  strokes  to hit a strokeful 79 runs while Omar & Taher supported him to earn their team a well deserved victory and lift the Plate trophy. Omar batted sensibly well to score 24 runs while Taher played a sheet anchor role to notch 29 runs. Mussafar bowled well with a 3 wicket haul for Enigma and clearly indicated his talent as a good all-rounder. Mirza was rightly declared Player of the match for his splendid knock of 79 runs.

A large gathering of cricket lovers witnessed the finals and cheered their favorite teams.  Emad Al-Jassam, Board member of Kuwait Cricket and Osama Al-Holi, Section Head of PAAAF  jointly presented the Winner's trophy to the Captains of Royal Coast & Behbahani  teams and later on handed over the Runners Up trophy to the captains of Dessert Warriors and Enigma teams.

Asad Baig, Director General, Kuwait Cricket presented the Player of the match trophy to Amjad of Royal Coast in the Cup category and Iqbal Rajpurkar presented the Player of the match to Mirza in the Plate category. Riaz Choudhury, Director, Umpires panel, Kuwait Cricket and Arjuna, General Manager, Web site & Administration of Kuwait Cricket along with Ejaz Ahmed of Hala Pakistan jointly presented the individual trophies to all the participants of the match.
