River Island revealed its Autumn / Winter 2015 collections for womenswear and menswear, a range of fantastic choices for the fashion-forward man and woman: sleek, chic and practical for any occasion. The company unveiled the newest collection while fashion influencers, local media and management of River Island ME mingled at the launch event in The Avenues Mall on 13 September.
For the womenswear Autumn Winter 2015 collection, the clothing encompasses the adventurous spirit of the sixties and relaxed vibes of the seventies, combining elements from these influential eras with the present to create a unique, bold and sophisticated collection for the season ahead. Highlights of jewel tones and sugary sorbets add depth to the traditional earthy and sombre palette for a refreshing alternative to autumnal hues.
70’s Luxe combines clean tailoring with touches of pretty Victoriana and graphic colour blocking to create an effortlessly elegant collection. Mannish suits in soft caramels are juxtaposed against flute sleeves and pussy bow necklines for a luxe bohemian feel. Key shapes for trousers are culottes and flares whilst skirts take on Aâ€Line silhouettes.
70’s Modern Bohemian draws inspiration from 19th century gothic, fusing sultry temptress with urban ethnic for a vamped up folksy look. Embracing black on black dressing, sumptuous lace is teamed with super soft suede and folkloric jacquards with an artisan handloom feel. Details come from fringing, whip stitching on leather and lacing on necklines, skirts and jeans.
Studio 54 inspired pieces in glitter lurex create high-â€octane evening glamour to form 70’s Glam Rock, the moody base colour palette is injected with flashes of rich emeralds and sparkle metallics. Plunging necklines, mesh panelling and sumptuous velvets create extravagant and interesting dresses whilst jumpsuits become daring in sheer fabrics with super wide legs, accents of fur, skinny scarfs and knee high boots finish off the looks.
Cool urban tailoring in soft hues of oatmeal, grey and camel creates a clean and calm foundation for Urbanist. Bonded fabrics and technical tailoring cloth are essential to the collection, whilst silhouettes become elongated. Outerwear is key with longer length coats and sleeveless jackets featuring throughout, pencil skirt co-â€ords in luxe fabrications and relaxed checked suiting encompasses the laid back aesthetic.
Parisian street style meets classic rock chick to create Francoise 60s. Inspired by sixties cool girl dressing this trend creates a tough yet cute look. Sixties shapes get a contemporary revival with elements of biker chic, using zips and heavy leather to add a rebellious twist. Key looks include pastel sixties inspired tailoring and mini skirts and dresses teamed with sorbet shaggy furs, elements of fun are added with patent ankle boots and quirky patterned tights.
For the menswear Autumn Winter 2015 collection, River Island has redefined menswear with the focus on premium cuts, chic tailoring and higher quality fabrics. Outerwear and knitwear lead the way, with standout trims and detailing making each piece unique. Colour palettes are seasonally rich and complimented by clean neutrals.
Rustic Workshop utilises earthy camel. Hero pieces perfect for layering come in hues of brown in heavily textured fabrics. Texture blocking and autumnal tones establish real standouts finished with antique copper and silver trims. The Oversized Worker Crombie will compliment chunky knitwear for a look completed with raw denim.
Sports Day combines the technical features of modern sportswear with the luxurious cuts and details of classic tailoring. Minimal with a strict colour palette of blues, blacks, greys and bottle green, adorned by high shine silver and matte black. Pieces remain minimalist yet still contemporarily lux. Silhouettes are sleek throughout; the PU Coach Jacket in particular will create a wonderful point of interest in any look.
70’s is inspired by a period of assertive and striking looks, pieces reflect this timeless era through a rich colour palette of wine, brown and navy, combined with camels and neutrals. Roll necks, Crombie’s, and pleated trousers strike a level of elegance, further defined by the use of shearling, suede and cashmere. This look will evolve with the season, key pieces like the Shearling Jacket being at the centre.
Pinstripe takes a revitalised approach to tailoring that is casually sophisticated; colours remain neutral and feature a pop of oxblood. Premium tailoring fabrics are remodelled into contemporary casual shapes; the Smart Wool Jogger is key, as is the Pinstripe Bomber, to constructing the smart separates look. Utilising a time-honoured but modernised pinstripe, one can effortlessly make a subtle statement.
Modern Military provides a contemporary take on classic utility pieces, with colours covering a variety of khaki and grey shades, dark and lux black pieces also featuring prominently. Trousers in flannel and wool are essential to the authenticity of this look, and pair perfectly with the Oversized Wool Trench. High shine silver and colour blocking give a sense of modernity, bringing the whole collection right up to date.
Tailoring in continuation from the fresh and refined Spring Summer looks grows increasingly more sophisticated, reflected in the deep blues, shades of grey and oxblood. Windowpane checks and double-breasted suits add authentic elegance to the collection, while tweed suiting ensures the collection is versatile.
