Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah, Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Residency Affairs at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) urged residency law violators to legalize their stay within the coming few weeks before a long-term security campaign against violators is launched. “There is no place for residency visa violators in Kuwait,” he said.
The campaign would include elements from all Ministry of Interior sectors with the purpose of apprehending and deporting residency law violators without any hope of returning to Kuwait, Jarrah pointed out. Urging violators to immediately legalize their stay, Jarrah added that various immigration departments currently provide special facilities to help them.
On when the campaign is expected to start, Jarrah said that a special plan was still being set to determine each security sector’s role. Commenting on the recently announced total number of violators which suggested that they were over 100,000, Jarrah stressed that the actual number is much less than that because immigration databases are yet to be updated to remove information of people who already left the country and the number of those who legalized their stay.
A local daily reported that Jarrah warned violators to immediately work on legalizing their stay, as the option of granting a grace period is only up to the political and security leaderships. He further stressed that no decision so far taken in this regard.
