"Economic and financial reforms have become an unavoidable necessary option in shadow of global economic conditions," His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah affirmed on Tuesday.
The Government, keen on (interests of the citizens and the coming generations, will continue to secure basic services and commodities "which guarantee an honorable livelihood for them," His Highness the Prime Minister said.
The Government formed a panel, in 2013, to re-examine various subsidies provided for the citizens for "sake of rationalizing them to ensure their sustainability," added Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak as he emerged from a meeting, attended by the National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim, discussing the recent Cabinet resolution to "rationalize fuel prices."
Elaborating, His Highness the Prime Minister stated that the Government responsibility "lies in taking decisions that may be currently eyed as unpopular," however such decisions are intended to serve the citizens' interests in the medium and long terms. These decisions, he added, came in line with studies and recommendations that had been forwarded by various specialized economic and financial aurhorities.
"Our responsibility lies in taking all necessary measures for maintaining the State capacity to proceed with securing honorable livelihood for the citizens at present and in the future," the Prime Minster said.
