The Pakistan Embassy marked its country's 71st Independence Day on Monday, 14 August with an impressive function. The ceremony began with a flag hoisting followed by a well-attended function in the Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium. The Pakistani Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Ghulam Dastgir read out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. In his remarks, the Ambassador stated that Pakistan’s Independence marked the successful culmination of a heroic struggle of the Muslims of the sub-continent for their right to have a separate homeland of their own.

He also underlined the major initiatives of the government to achieve rapid socio-economic development and tackle the menace of terrorism. He moved on to mention the plight of the Kashmiri people and explained Pakistan’s principled position on Kashmir based on UN resolutions.

He reiterated the Prime Minister’s stance that it is the country’s historic commitment and duty, as a party to the Kashmir dispute, to continue to extend support and advocate the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. On bilateral relations, he informed the gathering that the leadership of the two brotherly countries of Pakistan and Kuwait are determined to convert the huge reservoir of mutual good will into a strong partnership through expanding cooperation in diverse fields, notably trade, energy and investment. He also lauded the positive role of the Pakistani community in Kuwait. This was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.
