December 12, 2015, 3:53 pm

The Radisson Blu Hotel held its first gingerbread decoration contest on Saturday morning at the Al Bustan Ballroom. More than a hundred children from different schools with their families and guests participated in the competition. The overall fun event which lasted two hours was spent on different activities including face painting, Gifts from Santa and photos with him.

The gingerbread decorating contest started with children claiming their gingerbread house and embellishing their pastries. After an hour, judges Resident Manager Gerard Moutou and Executive Chef David Harnois went around to judge the decorated houses.  Seventeen beautifully decorated gingerbread houses were chosen, and from them three were crowned winners.

Winners were; Daleen Frekas, Ous Al Badawy and Anfal bu Hamad, and they each received a gift from the hotel. Among the highlights of the occasion was the hotel staff clad in red tapestry and Santa hats belting out three joyous carol songs. Santa later visited and distributed candies to the excited children. He also took a seat on stage in his green chair and children took their photo with him. Each child received a gift from Santa and as they exited from the hall they received giveaways toys. The Gingerbread houses were packed individually and handed over to the children to take home.

“I thank Radisson for organizing such event and for our children to enjoy such activity. It is such a pleasure to see them delight in the activity and have their finished products taken home for the family to enjoy,” said Sarah.

A special table was occupied by many children with special needs. “This is my first time involved in such an event, and I am very happy to be a part of it,” said Anfal Bu Hamad, a child with special needs and one of the winners of the competition.

Among the other activities lined up for the occasion include special events at the Bustan Restaurant and Sky Lounge on Christmas day and New Year’s Eve.
