The Viking Cub of Radisson Blu Hotel held its first annual 3 Kilometers Fun Run Saturday morning with 250 runners, the highest turnout so far listed in the record of the club. ASEAN embassies were represented by its diplomats with the Ambassador of Malaysia Ahmad Rozian Abd. Ghani and diplomats of Indonesia and Philippines.
The 3 Kilometers Fun Run kicked off with the registration of participants in the reception of the club followed by hotel shuttle buses bringing the runners to the start of the run located at the Messilah area. Viking Club instructor Chris Balingit, Jamie Red and Stretch Club trainer Ga See Marie provided the ten-minute cardio and stretch prior to the run. Runners were led to the starting line and Recreation Director Ivan Tzenkov signaled the start of run. Local police provided the traffic assistance for the safety of the participants.
Ten winners claimed the major prizes namely; Greg Ziembinski won first place for male division, Lowel Andrew in second place and Cristian Cratia in third place for the women’s category; Lulu Al Askar bagged the first place, Charlene Scodeliano in the second spot and Helen Searle landing in third place. For the children’s category, Imogen Lambert won the first place, Tor Lambert on the second place, Asdam El Dabet in third place and four-years-old Darius Cimpian won the youngest competitor category. Medals and gifts compliments of The Gym Team and vouchers courtesy of the hotel were awarded to the winners.
The philippine delegation headed by Chelsea Dado, the wife of Consul General Raul Dado and Girlie Caba, Administrative officer led the team of fifteen runners from the consular section of the embassy. The Indonesian Embassy was also represented by its diplomats. Malaysian Ambassador, who had run in the previous event returned with some Malaysian nationals to participate.
Certificates of appreciation were given to the embassies and sponsors of the event that included Nourishment, a health and Fitness Company, that distributed health products and bars to all participants and members of the club.
“The number of runners has increased tremendously and overwhelming response from those who follow us on social media. We thank everyone who came to participate and our generous sponsors who donated gifts and prizes. Special thanks go to the hotel for the generous spread of refreshment provided after the event,” said Tzenkov.
