The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) said the Fatwa and Legislation Department has approved the amendment to some articles of Labor Law No 6/2010 concerning employees and the employers who violate the rights of the laborers, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.
The sources pointed out, PAM is rewriting the law prior to submitting it to the Cabinet which will later send it to the National Assembly for approval. The sources added the aim in amending the law is to adjust the labor market rather than just banning the violators.
The sources pointed out the most noticeable amendment to the law is Article 138 that calls for punishing the employer by imprisonment between 1 and three years and a fine of not less than KD 1,000 and not more than KD 5,000.
The sources pointed Article 10 of the law concerns bringing of laborers from outside the country and not offering them work which is equivalent to trafficking in human beings. The employer in this case will be sent to prison for between one and three years and fined.
Sources added Article 140 states that the one who disturbs the task of the officials prevents them from doing their job will be fined between KD 500 and KD 1000 and the fine will be doubled in case of repeat violation. Article 142 states anyone who violates the law and shuts down the establishment will be jailed for one to six months and fined KD 500 to KD 1,000.
